Here is an overview of the Prep Programme at Cannonvale State School.
Curriculum and Learning
The program is child-centred and play-based. The children are encouraged to explore and investigate.
In the Prep classroom the children will: Take on responsibilities Respect other people Co-operate with others Become more independent Make sensible choices about health and play Develop their physical skills Develop their oral language Develop early literacy understandings Develop early numeracy skills Problem-solve and investigate Experiment creatively Experience real life situations-excursions
An enthusiasm for learning is fostered and encouraged, preparing them not only for Year One but for future learning.
Assessment
Individual Folio – containing evidence of learning Early Learning Record—judgments are made about a child’s learning

Computer, Library, Music and Phys Ed lessons with the Specialist Teachers will be incorporated into the program.
Handy Hints for the Prep Year
Please ensure that you bring the following every day to Prep: Shoes, sandals or joggers which are able to be put on independently (No thongs or high heels) Lunch box Healthy food—keep lollies, chips, cordial and peanut products to a minimum.
******************** Also remember to: Read noticeboards and newsletters regularly Collect and bring in clean waste materials eg. boxes, bottle tops, magazines, wrapper rolls etc Name everything Notify the office (Admin) of any change in your address or phone number Notify teachers by note if there is a change in your child’s daily routine Buy a school bag big enough to hold lunchbox, school work etc If possible, spend some time with your child when you drop them off in the mornings and leave by 8.45a.m.
